LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV Lady Rebels completed the non-conference slate with an 80-57 win over UC Riverside on Saturday afternoon at the Thomas & Mack Center. The Scarlet & Gray finished non-conference with an 8-4 record and are ready to begin defending their Mountain West title in eight days.

Three Lady Rebels scored in double figures and were led by them Amarachi Kimpsons 13 points. Kimpson shot 4 of 6 from the field, 2 of 3 from behind the arc and was 3 of 4 at the free throw line. Meadow Roland And Kenadee Winfrey each added 12 points apiece. Roland led UNLV in rebounds with seven Alyssa Brown pulled down six rebounds each. Kiara Jackson provided a team-leading five assists.


  

The Highlanders (6-6) were led by Makayla Rose, who had 11 points, while Shelley Duchemin added 10 points. Esther Matarranz was the leading rebounder for UCR with 10.

CONTROLLED FROM THE START: After the Lady Rebels won the vault, Kimpson and Brown hit back-to-back shots to take a 4-0 lead. Although the Highlanders scored four straight points to tie the game, the Scarlet & Gray scored seven straight points to control an 11-4 lead. UNLV closed the first quarter with a six-point scoring run and took a 19-9 lead into the second quarter. The momentum continued over the next 10 minutes as the Lady Rebels hit three consecutive 3-pointers to extend the lead to 19, 32-13. Less than 30 seconds before halftime, Winfrey scored a basket to make it 42-26 at halftime. The Lady Rebels then continued to stay hot and didn’t let up the rest of the way.

OTHER NOTES:

  • The Lady Rebels held the Highlanders to just 18.2% shooting from the field in the first quarter and 20.0% shooting from the field in the third quarter.
  • UNLV outscored UCR 47.5% (29 of 61) to 34.5% (19 of 55).
  • The Scarlet & Gray provided 22 assists compared to the Highlanders’ seven assists.
  • The Lady Rebels continued to dominate the paint, scoring 30 of their 80 points in the paint.
  • UNLV’s bench outscored UCR’s bench 44-19.
  • The Lady Rebels forced 11 Highlander turnovers and scored 15 points.
  • UNLV outrebounded UCR 40-31
