Lamar Jackson throws 5 touchdowns, Tommy DeVito suffers a concussion in the loss

Lamar Jackson threw five touchdown passes. The Giants were playing their fourth quarterback. And New York set a franchise record with its ninth straight loss, 35-14 to the Baltimore Ravens, at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

“There really wasn’t much talking after that game,” edge rusher Brian Burns said of the team’s reaction. “I’ll probably feel better on Monday.”

The Giants slipped to 2-12 this season and 0-8 at home. They were outscored 445-236 by the Ravens and two-time MVP Jackson.

Under the watch of Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll, the Giants have now lost nine straight in a season for the third time in franchise history, according to ESPN Stats & Info: 1976, 2019 and now 2024.

They still have three games left: at the Falcons, against the Colts and at the Eagles. There’s a chance they could finish 2-15 and 0-9 at MetLife Stadium.

“I came across a good football team with a lot of good football players, and they played well, and we didn’t play well,” Daboll said.

Tim Boyle was the Giants’ fourth starting quarterback this season and the third Giants QB in the last four games.

First it was Daniel Jones, Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock. Then DeVito suffered a concussion in the second quarter Sunday in his second start of the season.

A huge hit by Ravens defensive back Nnamdi Madubuike appeared to be the cause of DeVito’s concussion, although the quarterback remained in the game for the remainder of that drive before ejecting.

Daboll said he was the one who noticed something was wrong with DeVito and notified a trainer.

“Right before we left for that two-minute drive, I went up to him and talked about a particular play,” Daboll said. “We had a couple of timeouts and I just saw his eyes. I asked the coach to come and take a look at it and they took a look at it. And so we drove down right after that touchdown series.”

So Boyle, 30, came in and threw for 128 yards, a touchdown to Malik Nabers and an interception while playing for a sixth team in his seven-year career.

Aside from scout team work, he hadn’t taken a single snap with any of his teammates before Sunday.

“I haven’t yet,” Boyle said. “What you saw today was me playing with these guys for the first time. So definitely a cool learning experience. When I feel the speed and the starting line, I think they did a really good job today.”

Nabers’ score was his first touchdown catch since Sept. 22 and the Giants’ first touchdown pass as a team since Jones hit Chris Manhertz in the end zone on Nov. 3 against Washington.

Nabers said he was impressed that Boyle knew the offense well enough to run it.

“For him to come out here – he’s been with the team for three, four weeks – and it looked like he knew the offense as well as a first-team quarterback,” Nabers said. “I picked up the offense pretty slowly. But when he goes out there, throws the ball around, we have chances at footballs… I thought he had a great game.”

Schoen and Daboll struggled to keep the quarterbacks healthy.

The Giants started DeVito against the Buccaneers in their first game after releasing Jones. DeVito was injured and was unable to start the next week.

Lock then started games against the Cowboys and Saints, but suffered 35 hits, was injured and was unable to start on Sunday.

That led to DeVito’s second start of the season, but he didn’t even make it to halftime.

It’s now possible that Boyle will have to start next Sunday’s game in Atlanta, as Lock still appears to be hampered by his heel injury and there’s no telling how DeVito will progress in the protocol.

However, this will just be a good opportunity for Boyle to audition for his next opportunity.

The Giants have nothing to offer other than themselves.

MetLife Stadium was loud early Sunday because so many Ravens fans had come to cheer as Jackson and the Ravens raged.

And in the fourth quarter, the stadium was gray and empty, as was the sky above—once the plane John Mara ordered to fire had everyone cleared the stadium, of course.
