Large swarm of half a dozen New Madrid faults in Missouri shake on Monday

The New Madrid Fault now has my undivided attention. There have been a half-dozen confirmed quakes in southern Missouri, and Monday is not even halfway over.

UPDATE: There are now some 7 New Madrid, Missouri, quakes on Monday The most recent registered a magnitude of 3.0, making it the largest of the swarm to date.

ORIGINAL STORY: The USGS seismologists have reviewed and confirmed a number of 6 earthquakes in New Madrid, Missouri, all occurring on Monday and they are all near New Madrid, Missouri.

None of the half-dozen quakes in the New Madrid, Missouri, area were large, but they weren’t tiny either, with the strongest quake measuring 2.7 just after midnight last night.

Is this swarm Monday a series of foreshocks before a major event in New Madrid?

Unfortunately, it is impossible to predict whether a major earthquake will occur. But if I were you, I would keep an eye on what’s happening in southern Missouri today and always have an earthquake emergency plan ready. The reality of living in Missouri is that we have one of the most seismically active faults in America under our feet and we know that one day in the future it will ruin all of our days.
