Large swarm of half a dozen New Madrid faults in Missouri shake on Monday

The New Madrid Fault now has my undivided attention. There have been a half-dozen confirmed quakes in southern Missouri, and Monday is not even halfway over.

UPDATE: There are now some 7 New Madrid, Missouri, quakes on Monday The most recent registered a magnitude of 3.0, making it the largest of the swarm to date.

ORIGINAL STORY: The USGS seismologists have reviewed and confirmed a number of 6 earthquakes in New Madrid, Missouri, all occurring on Monday and they are all near New Madrid, Missouri.

None of the half-dozen quakes in the New Madrid, Missouri, area were large, but they weren’t tiny either, with the strongest quake measuring 2.7 just after midnight last night.

Is this swarm Monday a series of foreshocks before a major event in New Madrid?

Unfortunately, it is impossible to predict whether a major earthquake will occur. But if I were you, I would keep an eye on what’s happening in southern Missouri today and always have an earthquake emergency plan ready.
