Latest Vikings OLB news

The Minnesota Vikings are playing their biggest game of the season so far, with their position in both the NFC North and the NFC Playoffs on the line against their division rival, the Green Bay Packers. Things have been largely smooth sailing for the Vikings so far, as they hold the lead in the second quarter.

Things didn’t go well for the Vikings, however, as they may be without one of their pass rushers for the rest of the game. Outside linebacker Pat Jones II was shot in the legs by Packers tight end Tucker Kraft and immediately went down.

Pat Jones II injury update

After Kraft’s low hit – which was technically a legal block because the contact occurred inside the tackle box – Jones lay on the field for several minutes while being attended to by the Vikings’ medical staff. Jones ultimately left the field under his own power for further evaluation.

After further evaluation, Jones was officially listed as doubtful to return to play due to a knee injury.

How long will Jones be out?

Jones was seen limping on the sidelines, but he didn’t appear to be in too much discomfort. He was able to put at least some weight on the leg, so his designation as “questionable” is more due to caution than the severity of the injury.

We will keep you updated on Jones’ condition if it becomes apparent that the knee injury will impact his availability ahead of next week’s season finale against the Detroit Lions

Since it is questionable whether Jones will return to the game, this should not have too much of an impact on the Vikings’ defensive game plan. Jonathan Greenard and Andrew Van Ginkel are and will continue to be the main full-backs. The injury impacts the rotation, meaning these two may be on the field more today than originally planned.

The injury could also open the door to more playing time for players like Jihad Ward and first-round draft pick Dallas Turner.
