Lay’s Classic Potato Chips recalled due to possible “life-threatening” allergic reaction

Frito-Lay has issued a recall for a limited number of its Lay’s Classic Potato Chips that may affect those with milk allergies.

The company said in an announcement Monday, Dec. 16 posted on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website that some of its 13 oz. or “party size” bags may contain undeclared milk.

Frito-Lay was made aware of the undeclared allergen through a consumer contact, but said it had not reported any allergic reactions associated with this recall as of Dec. 16.

According to Frito-Lay, the products in question were already on store shelves in Oregon and Washington as of November 3rd. The affected potato chip bags have a “Guaranteed Freshness” date of February 11, 2025 and manufacturing codes “6462307xx” or “6463307xx.”

The company recommends that consumers with a milk allergy discard these chips, but no other products or flavors have been recalled.

A person with a milk allergy who takes the product may experience mild symptoms such as “whistling, vomiting, hives and digestive problems” or more severe symptoms such as anaphylaxis, according to the Mayo Clinic.

While most symptoms appear as soon as a person consumes milk, in some cases there may be a delayed reaction. According to the health company, you may experience vomiting and diarrhea or other symptoms hours after taking it.
