LeBron James and Anthony Davis were to blame for the Lakers’ losing streak

LeBron James and Anthony Davis were to blame for the Lakers’ losing streak

The Lakers have struggled on the road this season. Los Angeles has a 5-7 road record and suffered its worst loss of the season on Wednesday, losing 134-93 to the Heat in Miami.

As the result shows, the Lakers didn’t do particularly well. Even the performances of the team’s biggest stars, LeBron James and Anthony Davis, ranged from mediocre to poor.

LeBron had a much better game than AD with 29 points, eight assists and four rebounds. However, he still had five turnovers and was involved in some rough possession actions on defense.

Davis was absolutely terrible. He scored just eight points on 3-14 shooting and appeared disinterested and unfazed for much of the game.

After the historic defeat, both players accepted responsibility for the embarrassing result.

“I think it starts with individuals first,” LeBron said. “We all have to take responsibility. It’s great to see it in the film. You address it straight away and then move on.”

LeBron was much more aggressive on offense compared to recent games and scored the first six points for the Lakers against the Heat. On defense, however, he still doesn’t manage to get back into transition every time and has to finish off the shooters.

The Lakers demand more from LeBron than any other player his age, and that’s harsh, but it’s also the reality. If he can’t help on that side of the ball anymore, the Lakers don’t appear to be good enough to overcome this and there will be more losses, especially against the best teams in the league.

AD was tough all around on Wednesday, but his lack of aggressiveness or execution was particularly concerning on offense. However, he didn’t shy away from taking responsibility after the game and seemed confident that the team could pull everything off.

“I have the utmost confidence in this group and this coaching staff,” Davis said. “But like I said, personally I think it just starts with myself. If I play better, the boys play better. I definitely take responsibility, especially in the last few games, just because I wasn’t there for the team offensively.”

A loss this big could certainly affect team chemistry and make a bad situation worse. Davis is aware of this and, as the Lakers’ best player, understands that everything begins and ends with him.

“We just have to stay together,” Davis said. “Obviously the team feels the same way as me and the last two games have been terrible shooting the basketball. You just have to get better individually to help the team. The boys are doing their part and I’m not doing mine, which is difficult for us. “I just have to play better individually on both sides.

“I hold myself to higher standards and I didn’t do what I needed to do for our team, especially on offense. We have to stay together. There’s still plenty of basketball, but it wasn’t our style of basketball tonight. It was embarrassing. We just have to prepare for Friday.

It’s good that both the star players and the head coach agree that responsibility is crucial after this result.

Now the words and the actions have to match. If they seem disinterested on Friday or give up in the first moments of the game against the Hawks in Atlanta, those statements won’t carry much weight.

The first quarter of the season is over and the Lakers are at the same level they have been in recent years – hovering around .500 and struggling to get wins. Will things be different this year, or are we officially in a moment of madness where we expect different results with the same personnel?
