Lily-Rose Depp wows Jimmy Fallon with her flawless French

Lily-Rose Depp shows off her bilingual talents.

When Depp, 25, appeared The Tonight Show on Tuesday, December 16, to promote their new vampire horror film NosferatuHost Jimmy Fallon asked her to teach him a French phrase after he told her she grew up in France.

“If you’re ever in France and you feel like you’re in a situation where maybe there’s something suspicious going on, you’re not sure, but it’s something strange,” Depp said. “You can say, ‘Il ya anguille sous roches’… and it literally means, ‘Under the rocks are eels.’ Which loosely translates to: “There’s something strange going on.” “

“There are eels under the rocks – that’s great!” Fallon said. Depp added: “Pull that out, you get some local points.”

The Nosferatu Star is the daughter of actor Johnny Depp and French singer/model Vanessa Paradis, who dated between 1998 and 2012. The couple also share son Jack, 22; Both children grew up in both France and the United States.

Depp spoke about her upbringing and her dual citizenship in a conversation interview Magazine published on December 3rd, in which she spoke to Natalie Portman, who lives part-time in France.

“It’s funny because sometimes my French friends are like, ‘Haha, you’re so American about that,’ and my American friends are like, ‘French girl over here.'” I feel like I’ve always been full of dualities was, and my dual culture adds to that,” she said at the time. “It’s almost like a character. I feel like if I’m here long enough, I can really get into my Valley Girl vibe. I’m a Valley girl. I went to high school in the Valley.”

In that conversation, Depp noted that she feels comfortable embracing both sides of her family’s heritage, whether she’s spending time in Paris or in Kentucky, where her father Johnny, 61, grew up. “My family is French, and when I’m with them I feel like I’m 100 percent French, and when I’m with my dad’s family I’m like, yeah, we’re all Kentuckians,” she said .

Lily-Rose plays along Nosferatu with Nicholas Hoult, Aaron-Taylor Johnson, Emma Corrin and Bill Skarsgård, who plays the vampire Count Orlok. The film hits theaters on December 25th.
