Lisa Kudrow began to fear AI after watching the Tom Hanks film

Lisa Kudrow fears an uncertain future as artificial intelligence becomes more widespread in Hollywood.

During a recent appearance on the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard podcast, she discussed Robert Zemeckis’ current film, “Here,” starring Tom Hanks and Robin Wright. The film used AI to allow the stars to play the same characters from their teens through old age.

“They shot it, and they could actually shoot the scene and then look at the rendition as younger, and it’s ready for them to watch,” Kudrow said.

She continued: “And all I got from it was that this is an endorsement of AI and oh my God. It’s not like saying, ‘Oh, it’s going to ruin everything,’ but what will be left? Forget actors, how about up-and-coming actors? They will only license and recycle.

WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)?

Kudrow also worried about the impact of AI outside of the entertainment industry.

“Leaving that aside entirely, what work will there be for the people? What then? There will be some kind of livelihood for people, you don’t have to work? How can that even be enough?” she pondered.

Hanks confirmed the film’s use of AI last month when he appeared on the Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast.

“You go and do a data scan, and then they compare it to every photo that exists of me, and they go back and find so many photos of me at 17, 18, 19… my whole life. Then.” “You are hindering those who use the scary word – are you ready for that? They use AI to do all the work and get it done faster,” he said.

The Forrest Gump star continued: “We had two monitors during filming. One monitor was what we really looked like, and the other monitor, with a lag time of only about a nanosecond, showed us in deep fake technology. “On one monitor, I’m a 67-year-old man pretending “He’s in high school, and on the other monitor I’m 17.”

Hanks didn’t seem too worried about the AI, saying, “All it is is a filmmaking tool.”

He noted that for the type of work seen in “Here,” playing characters of different ages, “we still had to spend hours in the makeup trailer because we had to have wigs and hair.”

Instead of the motion capture dots often seen on actors’ faces in behind-the-scenes images, Hanks revealed that the technology used on “Here” is capable of “looking at the pores of your face just like that to use it to customize it.”

The Oscar winner also noted another impact of AI on her performances.

“Because we also had to look at timing and cadence and things like that, there’s a factor… we thought we were speaking in a very realistic cadence, and then we looked at a replay and it was as slow as molasses.” , he explained.

The Captain Phillips star added: “It wasn’t fun anymore to sit there and look at ourselves dressed the way we were.”

Hanks had to warn fans about fake ads that used his name, likeness and voice to promote products using AI.

In August, he posted a statement on Instagram that said: “There are several advertisements online that falsely use my name, likeness and voice, promoting miracle cures and panaceas. These ads were created without my consent, fraudulently, and using AI.”

He continued: “I have nothing to do with these posts or the productions and treatments or the speakers promoting these remedies. I have type 2 diabetes and am working ONLY with my certified physician regarding my treatment. Don’t be fooled. DO.” Don’t be deceived. Don’t lose your hard earned money.
