Lucas Raymond of the Red Wings steps up to the plate

DETROIT – When Lucas Raymond wasn’t finding the net earlier this season, he was still busy finding his teammates and racking up assists.

Now come the goals. Big goals.

Raymond has scored in four straight games, including the game-winner in each of the Detroit Red Wings’ last three victories.

The Red Wings (10-10-2) are seeking their third straight win, which would tie a season-high, today against the New Jersey Devils (15-8-2) in a Black Friday matinee at Little Caesars Arena (Dec. 15). p.m., FanDuel Sports Network).

The recipe for success for the Red Wings, who won three of their last four games, was strong goaltending, good defense, a dangerous power play and convincing moments from Raymond.

He scored with 51 seconds left to secure a 1-1 tie against the New York Islanders on November 21st. On Monday, he scored with 6:07 left to tie the Islanders 2-2. He scored at 3:35 of overtime against Calgary on Wednesday.

Raymond suddenly has six goals this season after only scoring once in the first 15 games.

“I felt like it was a matter of time because of the caliber of the player and the way he elevated his game last year and even this year,” coach Derek Lalonde said. “So, good sign and no surprise.”

If Raymond didn’t score, he was the moderator. He had 13 assists in the first 15 games. He leads the team with 22 points in 22 games.

“Of course it’s always fun to score,” Raymond said. “Everyone wants to score. I’m no different. But at the same time, it’s all about doing the right things and then good things happen. And I think that’s kind of my mentality. Goals rise and fall, whatever, but I think if you stick with doing the right things and playing your game the right way, I think good things happen.”

In his last 40 games, including the last 18 of last season, Raymond scored 20 goals and 23 assists.

The Red Wings desperately needed his offense. They are 27th in goals per game (2.50) and second to last in five-on-five goals (28). They were buoyed by a power play that ranks sixth at 28.1 percent.
