X-ray of Luigi Mangione's viral 'stapled spine': 'I'd kill someone too if...'
Luigi Mangione had a serious spinal problem that changed his life.

Luigi Mangione, the alleged killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, has revealed nothing about why he brazenly shot Thompson, but Mangione’s medical history suggests that his spinal injury led to his downward spiral. The photo of the X-ray of his spine taken from his X-profile is going viral and social media users are claiming that he probably underwent a botched surgery. “I would kill someone too if they did that to me,” one user wrote, explaining that Mangione likely had a lumbar spinal fusion.
On the X-ray, his spine looked like it was held in place with four screws.

Back surgery changed Mangione

One of his former classmates at Gilman School in Baltimore told the NYT that he believes the back surgery changed Mangione. After the operation he even went dark. Mangione started in a co-working and co-living space in Honolulu, where he made friends with many people. RJ Martin, the room’s owner, said Mangione told him he had a back problem and was seeking relief in Hawaii.
At Surfbreak, another, firmer bed was set up for Luigi and the back problem was so severe that Luigi probably had to undergo several operations. But the back pain didn’t bother him in his everyday life because he also went surfing and then had to take bed rest.
“His spine was somehow misaligned. He said his lower vertebrae were almost half an inch out of place and I think that pinched a nerve. “Sometimes he was fine, sometimes he wasn’t,” Martin said. Martin said Mangione confided in him that he was not in a relationship because he knew dating and physical intimacy were not possible because of his back condition. “I remember him telling me that and my heart just breaks,” Martin said.

Mangione went completely crazy after the operation

According to many people close to him, the back injury and surgery changed everything for him and he went “completely crazy.” It is not yet clear how the back injury occurred and whether it was a botched operation. According to some reports, the injury occurred in a surfing accident in Hawaii and the surgery took place at Mangione in Japan.
