Magic Johnson has joined the chorus of people ashamed of what they’ve seen from the Los Angeles Lakers lately.

I’m ashamed of the Lakers. At the end of the third quarter, they trailed the Miami Heat by 32 points (105-72).

Johnson actually sent his post in the third quarter, so he didn’t even wait to see how bad things got for the Lakers at the end of the game to share his feelings.

After that loss to the Heat, Lakers players and coaches frequently expressed embarrassment.

“There has to be some ownership,” head coach JJ Redick said. “You can splinter, and it’s easy to not want the possession, especially when it’s embarrassing. I’m embarrassed. It’s embarrassing for all of us. It’s not a game where I thought we had the right fight, the right professionalism.”

LeBron James didn’t specifically use the term “embarrassing” in his postgame comments, but said he agreed with Redick’s comments “1,000 percent.”

The Lakers’ once-good vibes have given way to a sense of unease about the possibility of another disappointing season with James and Anthony Davis playing together.

It seemed like the head coaching change from Darvin Ham to Redick was a brilliant move from the start. The Lakers started the season 10-4, including wins over the Minnesota Timberwolves and Phoenix Suns.

Davis looked like an MVP candidate with 31.3 points on 57.3 percent shooting and 11.2 rebounds in his first 14 games. Even 22 years into his career, James continued to exceed all normal expectations for a player, averaging 23.5 points, 9.4 assists and 8.1 rebounds per game in his first 14 starts.

Since November 21st, the Lakers have lost six of their last eight games. They remained under 100 points in each of their last three defeats. James missed 20 three-pointers in a row before hitting one in the third quarter on Wednesday.

Davis scored a season-low eight points in 31 minutes against the Heat. He is averaging 18.0 points per game on 43.0 percent shooting and has scored in seven games since November 23rd.

The Lakers have fallen to ninth place in the Western Conference with a record of 12-10. They are one game ahead of the Timberwolves and San Antonio Spurs in the win list.

Los Angeles’ average point spread of minus-4.2 points per game is the fourth-worst in the West, ahead of only the Portland Trail Blazers, Utah Jazz and New Orleans Pelicans.
