There were no reports of damage from the quake as of 4 p.m. Christie Rowe, the director of the Nevada Seismological Laboratory, said the earthquake occurred in an area that is not densely populated, which could have helped prevent injuries. Rowe noted that the likelihood of a major earthquake is increased after a moderate earthquake like this one. “The aftershocks are so small that they don’t really change the likelihood of an earthquake. However, a large earthquake, they don’t relieve the stress,” Rowe told KCRA. Rowe also said that a moderate earthquake like this is a good reminder for those living in earthquake-prone areas Regions live to prepare in the event of a large quake “I could see the whole house shaking for the few seconds that the quake lasted,” KCRA viewer Mildred Ellison said in Pioneer.
