Man fatally attacked by his three dogs in San Diego; Animals euthanized

A California man died and a good Samaritan suffered serious injuries after being attacked by dogs last week.

According to a statement from the San Diego Humane Society obtained by USA TODAY, the incident occurred last Friday afternoon at Mesa Viking Park in San Diego.

Officials at the nonprofit animal shelter were informed by local police around noon Friday that the man was being abused by his own three dogs.

“Upon arrival, our Humane Officers worked closely with SDPD to locate two dogs that were still at large and safely seized a third dog that was secured in a vehicle,” the statement said. “All three dogs were immediately taken into our care and are subject to mandatory bite quarantine.”

The next day, the San Diego Humane Society made contact with another passerby who had been bitten while trying to help the owner, the statement said.
