Man Utd 2-3 Nottingham Forest: Chris Wood scores as Ruben Amorim suffers a Premier League home defeat

Wood’s header means he is now Forest’s record goalscorer in the Premier League, overtaking Bryan Roy to move to 25 points in the competition.

The New Zealand striker has undoubtedly developed a positive working relationship with coach Nuno Espirito Santo, taking his tally to 21 goals in 31 Premier League games under the Portuguese, including 13 in 16 games away from the City Ground.

“He’s doing great. We are so lucky to have him. It’s never too late,” Nuno said on Match of the Day after the win.

He might have celebrated his 33rd birthday earlier in the game, but Wood was caught off guard when Ola Aina’s cross reached him at the far post and he fired wide.

Nevertheless, Wood is having an excellent season. Only the superstar duo Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland are ahead of him in the Premier League points standings. And after leaving Manchester City empty-handed on Wednesday after firing wide from Kevin de Bruyne’s wayward back pass, he would not return without reward on a second visit to the city.

There are big question marks over United’s defense as Onana, De Ligt and Martinez all have the opportunity to keep out Wood’s header but are unable to prevent it from hitting the net.

The result from United’s perspective was unfortunately predictable, but for Forest it was a welcome return to form after their own patchy run of one win in four games, which was celebrated long and loudly by the traveling support at the final whistle.

They had not won against United at Old Trafford since December 17, 1994, when Stan Collymore and Stuart Pearce scored.
