Man Utd 4-0 Everton: Has Ruben Amorim brought the feel-good factor back?

Man Utd 4-0 Everton: Has Ruben Amorim brought the feel-good factor back?

Despite winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, the Red Devils appeared to lack any identity under Ten Hag’s haphazard style and finished last season in eighth place, their worst finish in the Premier League.

But Amorim’s 3-5-2 system that brought so much success at Sporting is slowly taking shape at United, with careful counter-pressing in the system.

Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee both scored twice to punish Everton’s individual mistakes, while Amad Diallo was a constant thorn in the opposition’s side.

United have moved up to ninth in the table and are already eyeing a place back in the Champions League next season – they are just four points behind Brighton in fourth.

Amorim drew in their first game in Ipswich, beat Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday and picked up another win here. But Rashford doesn’t get carried away.

“The energy and the atmosphere speak for themselves,” Rashford told BBC Match of the Day. “It’s up to the players to do it in the stadium, but it’s up to the fans today… that’s what we want to hear: nothing but positivity and pushing the fans forward.”

“He (Ruben Amorim) is definitely demanding, but there is encouragement to bring his strengths into the game. Then you achieve a really good team performance.”

“Hopefully we can build on that and keep pushing. There’s no reason to get too upset. We have to push every day to meet his demands.”

This was the first of nine games in a difficult December for Amorim and United. With training ground time limited during this period, his skills will be tested in upcoming away games against Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham.
