Manchester City and Arsenal win as leaders Liverpool in Newcastle

Manchester City ended their seven-game winning streak with a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest on a night that saw Premier League leaders Liverpool suffer a dramatic 3-3 draw at Newcastle.

City’s run included four Premier League defeats, but they managed to achieve something of a routine win of old with victory against Forest at the Etihad Stadium.

With eight minutes remaining, Bernardo Silva converted Kevin De Bruyne’s header before the Belgian, starting his first game since mid-September, scored a second just after the half-hour mark.

Jeremy Doku scored his second league goal of the season in the 57th minute and City had the opportunity to extend their lead as they finally put an end to the decline.

The gap between champions and league leaders Liverpool narrowed to nine points after Arne Slot’s side were denied victory at St James’ Park by a last-minute goal from Fabian Schar after falling behind twice in the closing stages and took the lead in the game.

Mohamed Salah appeared to have saved his eighth consecutive win in all competitions when his second-half brace – both set up by substitute Trent Alexander-Arnold – gave the visitors a 3-2 lead with seven minutes to play after Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon scored both goals alongside Curtis Jones’ equaliser.

But Schar had the final say as he equalized in the 90th minute, converting Bruno Guimaraes’ free kick from a tight angle.

Liverpool’s draw allowed Arsenal to close the gap at the top of the table to seven points with a 2-0 win over Manchester United, Ruben Amorim’s first defeat since taking over.

Both goals came from second-half corners, one headed by Jurrien Timber and the other by William Saliba after Thomas Partey headed the ball.

Aston Villa ended an eight-game winning streak with a 3-1 win over Brentford, scoring all their goals within 15 minutes of the first half.

Morgan Rogers opened the scoring with a superb curling shot in the 21st minute and Ollie Watkins doubled the lead from the penalty spot seven minutes later after Ethan Pinnock fouled him in the box.

Matty Cash then made it 3-0 in the 34th minute, and Mikkel Damsgaard scored the visitors’ goal at the start of the second half.

Chelsea earned a 5-1 away win at Southampton in a game in which Saints captain Jack Stephens was sent off for pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair.

Stephens saw red in the 39th minute after dragging the Spanish defender by the curls, although Southampton were already 3-1 down at the time, with goals from Christopher Nkunku and Noni Madueke giving Chelsea the lead brought after Southampton’s Joe Aribo briefly equalized Axel Disasi’s opener.

Second-half finishes from Cole Palmer and Jadon Sancho caused more suffering for Russell Martin’s men and it could have been worse when Chelsea hit the post and crossbar.

Everton ended their goal drought in style as they beat Wolves 4-0 to secure their biggest win since May 2023.

Everton had not scored in 370 minutes, but he relieved pressure on Sean Dyche as Ashley Young scored his first goal in more than two years – becoming the club’s oldest goalscorer at 39 and four months old – while Orel Mangala scored the first goal of his loan spell shot from Lyon.

Craig Dawson was guilty of two own goals that compounded Wolves’ misery, although Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who played a key role in both, deserves some praise even if he failed to end his own run of ten goalless games.
