Maps show forecast snowfall in Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania and New York

The National Weather Service (NWS) said heavy lake snowfall will continue in the Great Lakes region through Tuesday morning, with more than a foot of new snow expected to fall near Erie, Pennsylvania and the New York state line.

Heavy snow will continue downwind from Lake Erie through Wednesday, according to the NWS. Forecasters expect light snowfall Monday over portions of the mid-Mississippi Valley, southern Ohio Valley and southern Appalachia. Moderate to heavy snowfall is expected over portions of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula Tuesday evening through Wednesday, the NWS added.

According to the NWS, temperatures will be 10 to 15 degrees below average in portions of the northern and central Plains to the Ohio Valley and the Mid-Atlantic, and freeze warnings will be in effect for portions of the Southeast.

Additional lake effect snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are possible on December 2, 2024 in extreme northeastern Ohio near Euclid, Richmond Heights and Mayfield. Across the rest of the area, snow accumulations will quickly decrease to 1 inch or less.
