Marcus Rashford Man United future: Ruben Amorim wants star to stay

Ruben Amorim has told Marcus Rashford he wants him to stay at Manchester United.

Rashford has hinted that after 20 years with the club he is ready to leave and take on a “new challenge”.

However, Amorim insisted the 27-year-old can find that challenge at Old Trafford if he wants to take United back to the top of European football.

“We are facing a new challenge here,” Amorim said at a press conference on Wednesday.

“It’s a difficult question. For me it is the biggest challenge in football because we are in a difficult situation and I have already said that this is one of the biggest clubs in the world. This is a really new challenge and the biggest one. I really hope so.” All my players are ready for this new challenge.

Rashford’s comments came just days after he was left out of the squad for the 2-1 derby win over Manchester City.

“I personally think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps,” Rashford, who admitted it was “disheartening” to be left out at the Etihad Stadium, told journalist Henry Winter. “There will be ‘no hard feelings’ when I leave.”

Amorim revealed that he has not yet spoken to the England striker, who had a day off on Tuesday, and will decide after training on Wednesday whether he will be part of the group heading into Thursday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final against Tottenham Hotspur travels to London.

Alejandro Garnacho has also been left out of the Etihad squad but will be available for a game against Spurs after training on Sunday and Monday.

“It’s the same situation for all the other players,” said Amorim.

“If they train well, I have to make a choice. We’ll see at the end of training.”

“I want to get the best out of each individual (the players) and that is the crucial point for me. I just want to win and help the team get better.”

“We are better with Marcus Rashford, that’s quite simple and we will try different things to get Marcus to the best level he has shown in the past. And that’s all.”

“This type of club needs great talent and he is a great talent so he just needs to perform at his best and that is my focus. I just want to help Marcus.”
