From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground as the story unfolds. Whether it’s investigating the finances of Elon Musk’s pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, “The A Word,” which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is is to extract the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in U.S. history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to continue sending journalists who speak to both sides of the story.

Mariah Carey has addressed speculation that her Spotify Wrapped video was created using artificial intelligence (AI).

In a post shared on According to Carey, she did not consult AI when creating this clip.

“Bad lighting and a red lip make everyone think this is AI??” she wrote. “There’s a reason I’m not a fan of any of these things!”

“I’m about to celebrate #Christmas with my Boston #Lambily,” she concluded as she wrote the post just before taking the stage at her Christmas show at TD Garden on December 5.

As part of Spotify’s annual Spotify Wrapped tradition, artists created videos to thank their top listeners. In her clip, Carey wore a red and white dress with decorated Christmas trees in the background, of course, in honor of the holidays.

“Hey, it’s Mariah. Thank you for listening to my music on Spotify,” said the “All I Want For Christmas Is You” singer. “Your years of support is the greatest gift I could ask for.

“This year we’re celebrating the 30th anniversary of my album ‘Merry Christmas,'” she continued. “I hope you enjoy listening and I can’t wait to share new music with you soon. Happy holidays.”

Carey ended her video by blowing a kiss to the camera.

When the clip was reposted on X, many people wondered whether or not Carey had taken the recording herself.

“There’s no way you guys think this isn’t AI,” one wrote, while another agreed: “This looks like AI HAHA.”

Carey, nicknamed the “Queen of Christmas,” is currently traveling on her Christmas tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of 1994 Merry Christmas album and its lead single “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”

The five-time Grammy winner kicked off her 20-date tour on November 6 in Highland, California. During her show two days later at the Hollywood Bowl, she even brought her 13-year-old twins Moroccan and Monore — who she shares with ex-husband Nick Cannon — on stage.

It is expected to reach several other American cities, including Baltimore, Maryland; Raleigh, North Carolina; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and Belmont Park, New York, before ending in Brooklyn, New York in December.

During a recent concert in Saint Louis, Missouri, a fight broke out when Carey performed “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” In a clip shared on X, a brunette woman was seen pushing a blonde woman in front of her in line, causing her to stumble. The blonde woman then spilled the rest of her drink on the other woman, who hit her back.

Another video – uploaded by someone who claimed they were standing next to the arguing couples – showed the women’s partners trying to break up the argument but ultimately pushing each other.
