MASSACHUSETTS – Do you save your nights away from home for the weekend? In Massachusetts, that can often mean missing a variety of great concerts, art exhibits, and other events across the state.

In Patch’s latest weekly column, we focus on what’s happening throughout the week in the Boston area and beyond.

This week after Thanksgiving, locals can dive headfirst into the holiday season with a performance by Mariah Carey at TD Garden. Their national “Christmas Time” tour is going nationwide this year, visiting over 20 cities across the country. Your stop in Boston is scheduled for Wednesday.

Also this week, the 9th Annual Readable Feast New England Food Writing and Cookbook Awards Program will take place live (and via ZOOM) on Wednesday at Summer Shack Restaurant Alewife, Cambridge.

Tickets for the cocktail party and ceremony are $25 (available for purchase) and all winning books will be available for the live raffle. The program is dedicated to the memory of chef and author Jasper K. White, who will be honored posthumously with the K. Dun Gifford “Local Hero” Award.

The Culinary Icon Lifetime Achievement Award honors Ihsan and Valerie Gurdal, former owners of Formaggio Kitchen and Formaggio South End, for “the breadth of their work in curating and serving excellent food, their commitment to education and increasing wealth.” our culinary community,” officials said.

Lisa Ekus, retired owner of Ekus Group, will receive the Literary Lion Award, which honors a New England author, food writer, publisher, editor, publicist or food influencer for their achievements as a positive role model, mentor and many others will contribute to our food writing community.

More than two dozen books were submitted for consideration – all by New England authors or written about food, drink or food culture in New England and published between October 1, 2023 and October 30, 2024.
