Mavericks vs. Jazz prediction, tips and odds for today’s NBA game

The Dallas Mavericks could be without several key players in their game against the Utah Jazz tonight, as Luka Doncic (wrist) is questionable and Klay Thompson (foot) is out. My Mavericks vs. Jazz predictions are that this opens the door for Naji Marshall to have another 20+ point performance.

My analysis
Despite being without Luka Doncic for the last four games due to a wrist injury, the Dallas Mavericks have continued their winning streak, going 3-1 during that time and scoring nearly 125 points per game.

The Mavs will likely be without Doncic and Klay Thompson again tonight, which should allow Naji Marshall to lead the offense once again.

Without Doncic in the lineup, Marshall has been a key to Dallas’ recent success, scoring 20-plus points in all four games and leading the team in scoring in two of those contests. The small forward is shooting the ball much more frequently, averaging 15 field goal attempts in his last four games, compared to his season average of just 8.7 per game.

Marshall was also much more active – and accurate – from 3-point range. He is shooting 10 of 18 from three (55.5%) in this four-game stretch with multiple three-pointers in each of those contests. Before that run, he had made just four 3-pointers all season.

It might help that the lowly Utah Jazz are the fourth-worst defensive team in the NBA this year (119.2 points allowed per game), so Marshall should get a lot of attention again tonight.

Another strong offensive performance from Marshall should be matched by overall good play from the Mavericks, who have scored at least 123 points in four of their last five games. The Jazz have also allowed 122+ points in four of their last five games.

Dallas enters the game as a 6.5-point favorite, but given the uncertainty surrounding Doncic, it’s hard to say whether they will be able to cover the margin. Still, the Mavs are without their star player and should still be able to pull out the win.
