Summary

  • Chris Evans is rumored to be returning as the evil version of Captain America in Avengers: Doomsday.

  • Fan art on Instagram shows Evans in the Hydra Captain America outfit and Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.

  • The graphic shows a darker MCU, with Evans wearing a green, black and gold suit as well as a green shield and Hydra symbol.

As the calendar gets closer to 2025, the excitement about what the MCU has to offer grows among its fans. All sorts of stories have been confirmed and even more are hinted at. If people thought the MCU had been turned on its head before with shows like Loki and films like Deadpool & Wolverine, then fans are in for some real surprises if even half of the rumored moves come to fruition.

Among the rumors that are circulating rapidly on the internet is that Chris Evans could be joining Robert Downey Jr Avengers: End of the World. And if Evans does show up, it’s completely uncertain how he could return to the MCU. Quite a few theories suggest that Evans could return as Captain America, but he won’t be who Captain America fans know. Rather, this time he will be an evil version of the shield-bearing hero. In the comics, there is a Steve Rogers in an alternate universe who was indoctrinated by Hydra at a young age and Cap ends up working for the government as an undercover agent for the Nazi-affiliated criminal organization.

Hydra-fied Captain America

Hail Hydra Captain America

An Instagram account with the username arifnity_ decided to post some MCU fan art to illustrate what a Hydra-savvy Steve Rogers might look like in full gear. As a bonus, the account included a picture of Robert Downey Jr. in his role as Doctor Doom (without the metal mask) and what looks like the Maestro (an evil, future version of The Hulk) in the background.

The image shows all three villains dressed entirely in green, with Steve Rogers wearing an outfit that looks quite similar to his normal Captain America costume, complete with his shield. However, instead of his uniform with red, white, and blue patterns, this outfit features green, black, and gold colors. His shield has been repainted, with the stripes being green, black and gold and the star in the center replaced with the Hydra symbol.

Cap’s helmet was also changed, replacing the capital A symbolizing America and instead an H for Hydra. Rogers’ finishing touch is that, while wearing his usual (albeit different colored) helmet, he wears a face mask similar to the one Bucky Barnes wore when he played The Winter Soldier. Meanwhile, Downey Jr.’s character wears the green robes synonymous with Doctor Doom, although he does show his face, as the artist clearly wanted people to know that they were definitely Steve Rogers and Tony Stark. Or at least the darker versions of these characters.

There is another slide in the post that is very similar, although this version is not dressed in green MCUSteve Rogers is wearing the same outfit as in the first picture, but the color scheme is red and black. However, the green outfit definitely looks better, as the red version tends to look bright pink from certain angles.
