Will a lucky lottery player have a particularly happy holiday?

According to the Mega Millions website, the Mega Millions lottery jackpot was estimated to be $1 billion with a cash option of $439.9 million for Tuesday night’s drawing.

It will still be the seventh-largest Mega Millions jackpot of all time and the 12th-largest U.S. jackpot in the lottery’s history (see charts below).

The jackpot was last won on September 10, when a lottery player in Texas won $810 million – the seventh largest Mega Million of all time.

“Can you imagine going to bed on December 25th and then waking up, checking your ticket and realizing you just won a $1 billion jackpot?” said Joshua Johnston, executive director of the Mega Millions Consortium , on Tuesday.
