With the expansion of the playoffs, the feeling of an almost forgotten bowl season comes to mind.

There have already been 11 bowls played, not counting the first round of the CFP. There are three more bowls today, five more tomorrow and eight more on Saturday before Mizzou vs. Iowa on Monday.

The interesting thing about Mizzou-Iowa is that the Tigers have played Iowa’s biggest rival, Iowa State, more times than Iowa. Yes, Mizzou and Iowa State have played 103 times over the years, while Iowa and Iowa State have only played 68 times. Mizzou and Iowa, meanwhile, have played each other just 13 times, and only once since 1911. That was an Insight Bowl game that capped a disappointing end to a promising season. That was the year the Tigers beat Oklahoma at home before College GameDay, going 7-0 before losing their next game at Nebraska.

Even the Insight Bowl game seemed to be a reflection of that season, as the Tigers looked like they were in full control with a 4-point lead and looking for another score before an interception was returned for a touchdown.

I understand if you’re not excited about this competition. Few people look forward to playing at Iowa these days. But I look at it this way: We still have a chance to cheer on Brady Cook, Theo Wease, Kristian Williams, Johnny Walker, Jr., Corey Flagg, Joseph Charleston, Luke Bauer, Mitchell Walters, Cam’Ron Johnson, Marcus Bryant. Drake Heismeyer, Tyler Stephens, Nate Noel, Marcus Carroll and maybe Tristen Newson all play football.

Come on, Tiger.
