Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Alexis Mac Allister are among the first players to post on social media following the postponement of the Merseyside derby against Everton. On Saturday, the Reds’ short trip to Stanley Park was canceled for safety reasons after Storm Darragh hit Merseyside.

An amber weather warning has been issued – strong winds are expected to reach the country in the early hours of Saturday morning. There were also track disruptions across Merseyside, with the Boylesports-sponsored meeting at Aintree Racecourse being abandoned shortly after 7am.

Officials from both clubs as well as security authorities met at Goodison Park ahead of the 245th meeting of the neighbors and the last meeting at this legendary stadium. The final decision was then made to cancel the campaign.

On social media, Salah – who is chasing Jamie Vardy’s Premier League record of 11 consecutive goals – posed with his daughter while spending time with his family on a rare weekend off from work. Meanwhile, his teammate Mac Allister should have missed the showdown after picking up a fifth yellow card in the 3-3 draw with Newcastle United.

The Argentine posted a picture with his dog on social media and due to Saturday’s postponement, barring any injuries or further suspensions, he could be involved in the rescheduling of the game at Goodison Park. Instead, he will serve his home ban against Fulham – and also miss the midweek trip to Girona in the Champions League – after also exceeding the yellow card limit in Europe.

An official statement from the Reds said: “Following a Security Advisory Group meeting at Goodison Park this morning, attended by officials from both clubs as well as representatives from Merseyside Police and Liverpool City Council, it was decided that this would be the case due to the security risk in the area and the yellow high wind warning remains in force until 6am on Sunday, today’s game will be postponed for safety reasons.

“We know this will be a huge disappointment for fans, but the safety of fans, staff and players is paramount. Information regarding a new date for the game – including ticket sales – will be announced in due course.”
