Las Vegas, NV – Vacation travelers in Nevada, California and Arizona should prepare for potentially dangerous driving conditions through Christmas Eve. Light rain combined with months of accumulated dirt and grime could lead to dangerously slippery roads in the region.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a 20-40% chance of rain on Christmas Eve affecting southern Nevada, southeastern California and northwestern Arizona. The light precipitation could double braking distances on major highways such as I-15, US-93 and I-40. Officials are urging drivers to keep a greater distance to reduce the risk of an accident.

The weekend forecast calls for dry and mild weather through Monday, with highs around 68°F in Las Vegas and sunny skies. Overnight lows will remain in the mid 40s. Rain showers are expected to move into the area on Tuesday night, causing slippery conditions until Christmas Eve.

Christmas Day is forecast to be a sunny day with highs around 18°C, making it ideal for holiday plans. However, if it rains on Christmas Eve as predicted, drivers should exercise caution on wet roads and allow extra travel time.

Drivers should check their vehicles, especially tires and windshield wipers, to ensure they are prepared for rain. Stay informed about changing road conditions by monitoring updates on Weather.gov or local traffic advisories.
