Myanmar regime’s foreign minister visits Thailand for regional talks: Junta

Myanmar’s junta-appointed foreign minister will travel to Thailand this week to discuss border security with its neighbors, a junta spokesman said on Monday.

Than Swe “will lead a delegation that will attend the meeting between Myanmar and neighboring countries,” junta spokesman Zaw Min Tun said in an audio statement.

The meeting would be attended by “ministers, deputy ministers and officials” from neighboring China, Laos, Thailand, India and Bangladesh, he said.

“They will mainly discuss border issues such as cross-border crime… They will work together to combat cross-border crime and ensure border stability.”

Myanmar has been in turmoil since the military seized power in a coup in 2021.

The coup renewed fighting with ethnic rebel groups and gave birth to dozens of new pro-democracy armed groups that are now fighting the military across the country.

According to the United Nations, more than 3.3 million people have been displaced by conflict since then. . .
