Nancy Mace’s ‘Drinking Game’ Video Sparks Backlash in Transgender Bathroom Controversy

A recently unearthed video featuring a US representative Nancy Mace Involvement in a controversial drinking game has resurfaced, shining a spotlight on her past amid her current stance on transgender bathroom access. Since the video was first leaked in 2016, criticism has increased as Mace becomes more prominent in controversial culture clashes.

In the video, obtained by The Daily Mail, Mace can be seen drinking. The leak went viral as Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign was in full swing. In the video, the now 47-year-old politician can be seen drinking a schnapps and passing it from mouth to mouth to an acquaintance who is wearing a Trump T-shirt. Mace’s girlfriend then continues the ritual with other participants. A male player vomits on the floor as the game comes to a chaotic end.

Mace did not dispute the accuracy of the footage. She said the film was made about 10 years ago, long before she began working in Congress. “This is why good people don’t run for office,” she commented, according to The Daily Mail.

The footage first came to light during Mace’s 2017 South Carolina State House race. Cindy Boatwright, her opponent, called her “immature” and “unfit for office.” In 2020, Mace advanced to Congress after securing her seat despite criticism.

Changing viewpoints and current controversies

The revelation coincides with increasing attention being paid to Mace’s recent congressional initiatives. She has supported efforts to bar transgender people from using the women’s restrooms at the Capitol, including Rep.-elect Sarah McBride. Mace wrote about the issue more than 300 times in three days, calling McBride a “man in a skirt” and transgender people “mentally ill,” The Daily Mail reported.

Mace’s position has been criticized as inconsistent. She co-sponsored the Fairness for All Act in 2021, which aimed to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender. Mace mentioned her personal connections to the LGBTQ+ community at the time and stated that she had spent her entire life interacting with gay, lesbian and transgender people. As recently as 2023, she described herself as “pro-transgender rights” in a television interview.

Accusations of opportunism

Former colleagues have questioned whether Mace’s recent shift to the right is sincere. According to people close to her, her actions were motivated by rumors that she might be on Donald Trump’s 2024 candidacy list and by a desire to be in the spotlight. According to a former aide, Mace’s ideological shift was caused by speculation that she was being considered for vice president.

“She craves attention more than anything,” an acquaintance told the Daily Mail. “Their change appears to be motivated by a need to be in the spotlight.”

Internal conflict and staff turnover

According to the Daily Mail report, unrest in Mace’s congressional offices is occurring at the same time as the scandal surrounding her public office. According to sources, its offices in South Carolina and Washington, DC have experienced over 100% staff turnover since 2023. Complaints included allegations of unpredictable behavior, foul communication and regular temper tantrums that reduced employees to tears.

Her supervisory style was described as “unpredictable” and “abusive” by a former employee quoted by The Daily Mail. After leaving their jobs, some employees allegedly went for treatment, while others changed jobs completely.
