Nancy Pelosi was hospitalized during a congressional visit to Luxembourg

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California was injured and hospitalized in Luxembourg while on a congressional delegation trip to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, a Pelosi spokesman said.

“Speaker Emerita Pelosi is currently receiving excellent care from doctors and medical professionals,” Ian Krager, a spokesman for Pelosi’s congressional office, wrote in a statement to reporters on Friday.

Krager said that Pelosi, 84, continues to work at the hospital and “regrets that she will not be able to attend the remaining CODEL events to honor the courage of our soldiers during one of the greatest acts of American heroism in our country’s history.”

“Speaker Emerita Pelosi conveys her thanks and praise to our veterans and her gratitude to the people of Luxembourg and Bastogne for their service in World War II and their role in bringing peace to Europe,” he wrote.

It was not immediately clear what type of injury the former speaker suffered or how long she was hospitalized.

In the statement to reporters, Krager wrote only that Pelosi “looks forward to returning to the United States soon.”

Pelosi’s injury came days after outgoing Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell sustained injuries following a fall in Washington DC on Tuesday.

McConnell, 82, stumbled during a lunch with Senate Republicans on Capitol Hill and “suffered a minor cut to his face and sprained his wrist,” a spokesman for his office said.

That is a Development Story. Please check back for updates.
