NBA: Cleveland beats Boston and LeBron James helps the LA Lakers win

Donovan Mitchell scored a game-high 35 points to inspire the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 115-111 win over the Boston Celtics.

The Cavaliers, whose 15-game winning streak earlier in the season was ended by the Celtics, trailed by 14 points at one point in the third quarter before making a strong comeback.

Mitchell scored 20 points in the fourth quarter – including 11 straight points – to give the Cavaliers a 103-101 lead with a minute and seven seconds left and secure a significant win.

The win ended a two-game losing streak for the Eastern Conference leaders, while the Celtics ended their streak of seven straight wins.

“For us, we have to go out and make a statement,” Mitchell said.

“They beat us in the NBA Cup. No excuse. We have to go out and try to build. We had two defeats that really hurt. We didn’t play like us. We needed this win.”

Elsewhere, LeBron James and Anthony Davis recorded double-doubles to help the Los Angeles Lakers to a 105-104 win over the Utah Jazz.

LeBron James scored 27 points with 14 assists while Davis finished with 33 points and 11 rebounds, helping the Lakers win for just the second time in six games.

Frenchman Victor Wembanyama recorded a triple double with 34 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists in the San Antonio Spurs’ 127:125 win over the Sacramento Kings.

Three-time NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic also recorded a triple-double – he scored 28 points as well as 14 rebounds and 11 assists – but couldn’t prevent the Denver Nuggets from losing 126-122 to the Los Angeles Clippers.

James Harden had 30 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds for the Clippers as they won their eighth straight at home.
