NBA star Victor Wembanyama talks about back injury

Victor Wembanyama is the NBA’s most intriguing young star.

At just 20 years old, many believe he has the potential for a first-ballot, Hall of Fame-style career.

Despite being available for most of the season, Wembanyama struggled with a back problem.

In a recent media session, the 2024 Rookie of the Year spoke about his injury.

Reporter: “How has your back affected your game, or perhaps even your ability to practice?”

Wembanyama (h/t @SpursReporter): “Not in a good way… It’s different to what I’ve experienced so far in my career. It’s not a big deal, but sometimes it stops me from doing certain things.”

Despite the injury, Wembanyama is averaging 23.6 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.2 steals and 3.4 blocks per game while shooting 48.0% from the field and 34.1% in 19 games. shoots from three-point range.

Wembanyama led the way with 25 points, 10 rebounds, one assist and three blocks while shooting 9/16 from the field and 3/7 from three-point range in just 26 minutes of playing time.

The Spurs have a 12-12 record in 24 games, making them the 11th seed in the Western Conference.

They last reached the NBA playoffs in 2019.
