Nebraska plunges in winter weather

Friday’s winter weather caused several accidents in and around Omaha. Law enforcement agencies are asking drivers to share information about whether the vehicles involved in the accident are moving and there are no injuries. They only respond to accidents that result in personal injury and when accidents cannot be repaired. Kathy Allen, Douglas County 911 dispatcher, is asking the public not to go outside until driving conditions improve. “Their cooperation is critical to preventing further accidents and ensuring the safety of our entire community,” she said. Interstate 80 at Highway 370 was closed because of a tractor-trailer, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation. It reopened on Saturday morning. Sarpy County Deputies are urging caution as Highway 6 at Ashland and Gretna and Highway 50 at 144th Street are “also very slick.” Derrik Mather sent some footage of a vehicle sliding down the highway near 168th Street and Fort Street. An Iowa State Trooper posted on social media after a semi-truck overturned on Interstate 880 in western Iowa. In Council Bluffs, an accident occurred near Kappell Avenue and Charles Street. There was a minor accident on the 10th Street Bridge blocking lanes. Another accident caused a traffic jam on southbound Highway 63. Law enforcement agencies urge drivers to share information if the vehicles involved in the accident are moving and there are no injuries.

Douglas County Emergency Management Director Kathy Allen is asking the public not to go outside until traffic conditions improve.

“We urge all Douglas County residents to stay home and avoid driving until conditions improve. Your cooperation is critical to preventing further accidents and ensuring the safety of our entire community,” she said.

According to the Nebraska Department of Transportation, Interstate 80 was closed at Highway 370 due to a semi-truck. It reopened on Saturday morning.
