Netflix is preventing a repeat of the Jake Paul and Mike Tyson streaming disaster

Netflix is preventing a repeat of the Jake Paul and Mike Tyson streaming disaster

Netflix recovered strongly after a difficult start.

The streaming giant will broadcast the Chiefs-Steelers and Ravens-Texans games on Christmas Day, its first live broadcast of the NFL.

After streaming issues during last month’s Jake Paul-Mike Tyson fight on Netflix raised concerns about the company’s ability to handle major events, issues were largely avoided during the day’s first game between Kansas City and Pittsburgh.

The stream didn’t lag and came out sharp and in high quality.

However, at the start of Netflix’s coverage on Wednesday, the show was silent as co-host Kay Adams began speaking, with her microphone seemingly malfunctioning for about ten seconds.

Later, a commercial for “Squid Game” aired while co-host Mina Kimes was in the middle of the conversation before the pregame show returned.

But after stumbling out of the gates, Netflix’s stream has been running smoothly ever since.

During the highly anticipated Paul Tyson fight, which Netflix said was watched by 60 million people on its platform, numerous fans complained that their stream froze or crashed.

The NFL was so concerned at the time that it reached out to Netflix, as ESPN previously reported, but was satisfied with Netflix’s explanation.

After the dispute, Netflix CTO Elizabeth Stone admitted to employees that the company needed to improve.

“This unprecedented scale presented many technical challenges that the launch team handled brilliantly by prioritizing the stability of the stream for the majority of viewers,” Netflix CTO Elizabeth Stone wrote to employees, according to Bloomberg. “I’m sure many of you have seen the talk in the press and on social media about quality issues.

“We don’t want to ignore the bad experiences some members have had and we know we have room for improvement, but we still consider this event a great success.”

Netflix paid $150 million for the two games – $75 million each – and will have at least one holiday game in each of the next two seasons, The Wall Street Journal previously reported.
