Video: Cool with some sunshine as the wintry pattern continues

Kevin Skarupa takes a look at when we could see snow before the weekend.

It’s been cool for us most of this week, with highs mostly in the 30s, a few in the upper 20s in the north, and the breeze easing to around 5 to 15 mph through the afternoon today. Lows will be in the teens to low 20s and highs will be in the 30s continuing throughout the day. On Wednesday, the one system we have this week looks like a heck of a band of light snow making its way late Wednesday night. It’s close, there might be a few slippery spots. The first thing we do on Thursday morning is check the options. But again, it looks like a heck of an accumulation situation at the bottom end. In addition, the wind will increase on Friday. It will be even colder until next weekend, with maximum temperatures mostly around 20°C, perhaps 30°C in southern New Hampshire. But all of these numbers that you see here for highs this week and into next weekend are below average for this time of year. This is an upper level low pressure area that continues to spiral northward and continues to feed northwesterly breezes. There is colder air, drier air ensures that temperatures fall again at night. A few twenties can be seen up north today, with *** lots of lingering clouds and *** few severe weather and *** some snow showers through the White Mountains in Coos County. Elsewhere there will be a *** mix of sunshine and clouds, brightest in southeastern New Hampshire, and some central parts of the state will see some clouds moving off the White Mountains at times, with partly cloudy skies. Tonight lows will be in the teens to lower 20s. And tomorrow again the same mix of sunshine and clouds, *** a few storms in the north, otherwise partly sunny, the early sunshine on Wednesday gradually gives way to clouds later on Wednesday afternoon. There is the next system I mentioned. And again, right now it looks like there will be light snow late Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, ending in the afternoon. Even colder air will move in behind it for Friday. And at the weekend there will be strong winds on Friday. *** A few gusts above 35 mph and that will set the table for colder air for the weekend with sunshine.
