New Mexico quarterback Devon Dampier commits to transfer to Utah

New Mexico lobos quarterback Devon Dampier has committed to transferring it to the Utah Utes.

Dampier played high school football in Phoenix, Arizona. climaxwhere he is according to the On3 industry rankinga weighted average that takes into account all four major recruiting media companies. He was the 91st ranked quarterback and the 1,683rd. players overall in this recruiting cycle.

In two seasons with the Lobos, Devon Dampier played 21 games. He completed 58.6 percent of his passes with 18 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He also averaged 7.3 yards per attempt. Dampier was excellent on site. He has 1,494 rushing yards for 23 touchdowns at 7.0 yards per attempt.

In 2024, Devon Dampier helped New Mexico post a 5-7 record. That was under Bronco Mendenhall and was the team’s best season by record since 2016. However, Mendenhall left the program after one season.

Devon Dampier now expects Utah to compete for the starting spot with the Utes. There he joins a program that has had regular problems with injuries at the quarterback position over the past two seasons. Cam riseswho previously had a lot of success with Utah, had to miss all of 2023 with a knee injury. He returned for 2024, but was injured again shortly after the season began, forcing several other quarterbacks to play.

The most notable of these quarterbacks replacing Cam Rising was Isaac Wilsonthe younger brother of Zach Wilson. He threw for 1,510 yards and 10 touchdowns with 11 interceptions this season. He has now entered the transfer portal himself.

There were also questions about whether or not Kyle Whittingham would return to Utah this season. However, he has since announced his return for the 2025 season. This will be his 22nd season as the program’s head coach.

Devon Dampier has two seasons left of eligibility.
