New York Yankees News: Cody Bellinger traded to the Yanks

MLB.com | Manny Randhawa: As you know by now, Cody Bellinger is a Yankee. New York traded swingman Cody Poteet for the 2019 MVP yesterday and later confirmed that Bellinger would take over as the everyday centerfielder. We have plenty of Bellinger coverage across the site, so check out our thoughts on the versatile bat.

The score | Josh Goldberg: The Bellinger deal is the second major trade in recent days, as the Yankees also have their new closer, Devin Williams. Apparently Williams was at the center of a bidding war between the Yankees and Dodgers and personally thought he would head to the West Coast before the New York deal was confirmed. With breakout star Luke Weaver now able to be used more flexibly, I’m glad the Yankees were able to add Williams to the roster.

New York Post | Dan Martin: Rōki Sasaki is expected to begin in-person meetings with potential teams this week as the NPB star works toward an MLB contract before his draft period ends in January. While the industry appears to have agreed that the Dodgers are his ultimate destination, both the Yankees and Mets will be major players in the pursuit of the 23-year-old. The Padres have since sharpened their own pitch because the chance to sign someone so young and so talented doesn’t come around that often.

MLB Trade Rumors | Steve Adams: A acquisition not quite as big as Bellinger’s, but the Yankees have signed right-hander Colten Brewer to a minor league deal. It is the second time Brewer has a Yankee contract and has thrown 8.1 innings with the big league squad in 2023.
