The Green Bay Packers won’t need a win in their Week 18 game against the Chicago Bears like they did last year to get into the playoffs.

The Packers have already secured their spot in the playoffs.

But Sunday’s 27-25 loss to the Minnesota Vikings officially ended their chances for fifth place in the NFC postseason. The Packers are also no longer in control of their fate for sixth place.

Meanwhile, the Vikings’ win in their Week 18 game against the Detroit Lions sets up a winner-take-all matchup. The winner receives the NFC North championship, first place in the NFC playoffs and a first-round bye. The loser is the fifth seed and must be eliminated in the playoffs.

Here’s the latest on the Packers’ playoff scenarios, current NFC North standings and what’s coming up.

Packers playoff scenarios

After the Packers lost on Sunday, their playoff picture came into clearer focus. They will be seeded either sixth or seventh in the 2024 NFC playoffs.

The Packers are currently the sixth seed and lead the Washington Commanders by half a game. However, if Washington beats the Atlanta Falcons (10-5) on Sunday night, they will move ahead of the Packers in sixth place based on the tiebreaker. The Commanders will also secure a spot in the playoffs with a win tonight.

A Packers win over the Bears in the season finale and another Commanders loss give Green Bay sixth place. The Commanders end their regular season at the Dallas Cowboys.

As the sixth seed, the Packers would face the third seed in the wild card round of the playoffs. The Los Angeles Rams of the NFC West are currently in this spot.

As the seventh seed, the Packers would travel to face the second-seeded Philadelphia Eagles, a team they lost to in Week 1 in Brazil.

NFC playoff picture

Here’s a look at the current NFC standings ahead of Sunday night’s game with the Commanders and Falcons. The Detroit Lions also have one more game to play against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night to complete Week 17. Seeds 1-4 are division leaders and 5-7 are wildcard teams.
