Nikola Jokić scored a new career-high goal, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Denver Nuggets to victory on Saturday night.

Jokić scored a personal best with 56 points against the Washington Wizards, although the Nuggets ultimately lost by a final score of 122-113.

The three-time MVP also grabbed 16 rebounds and added eight assists while shooting 22-38 from the field and 3-5 from behind the arc.

Denver was unable to stay effective from three-point territory throughout the contest. Outside of Jokić, the Nuggets shot 2-for-19 on long-range attempts as a team.

Fans praised Jokić but praised the Nuggets for the disappointing loss.

The Nuggets just had one of the worst losses of the season of any team. Nikola Jokic with 56 of Denver’s 113 points. I don’t care that they were without two starters. It’s embarrassing to play such garbage defense and lose to the Wizards. Played like a team that gave up.

Jordan Poole led the Wizards with 39 points and eight assists. He shot 46.2 percent from the field and hit nine three-pointers.

Jonas Valančiūnas also contributed a double-double, finishing with 20 points and 12 rebounds as well as five blocks.

After a 7-3 start to the season, the Nuggets have now lost seven of their last 11 games.
