No. 5 Carrollton beat No. 10 Buford 30-17 to advance to the Georgia 6A state championship

The big question mark heading into a big matchup in the Georgia 6A semifinals between No. 5 Carrollton (Ga.) and No. 10 Buford (Ga.) was whether Colorado-bound quarterback Julian Lewis could play. He did, leading the Trojans to a 30-17 road win that sent them into the 6A state championship game.

The four-star quarterback completed 15 of 18 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns. He left last week’s game against Hillgrove (Powder Springs, Ga.) with an injury to his throwing hand early in the second quarter.
Late in the second quarter, the Wolves had a 17-7 lead, but Lewis led the Trojans with a decisive drive capped by a 22-yard touchdown pass to Peyton Zachary with 1:54 left before halftime at 5:14 p.m. This led to 23 unanswered points for Carrollton, improving to 14-0 and ending Buford’s 12-game winning streak.
Miami-bound quarterback Luke Nickel was responsible for six touchdowns, three of which went to Georgia-bound wideout CJ Wiley. After the Trojans tied the game with 21 points in the second quarter, the Eagles scored 35 unanswered points.

All four games involving the MaxPreps Top 25 teams from Texas will take place on Saturday.
