This article contains details about important characters or plot.

When we first meet Lydia (Lisa Kudrow) and Paul Morgan (Ray Romano). Not a good deedIt seems that the only issue the couple can agree on is their dislike of other people. Although the couple disagrees about selling their house or the state of their marriage, they both roll their eyes at the scarves for home and their neighbor Margo (Emmy-nominated Linda Cardellini).

But after the trials and tribulations of season one, the Morgans are closer than ever (and have even more reason to dislike Margo). They end Not a good deed as a united front, smiling at her daughter Emily (Chloe East), seemingly finally free from the trauma that has plagued her all these years in her longtime home. Paul even seems to appreciate Lydia’s more mystical theories about the ongoing presence of her late son Jacob (Wyatt Aubrey), whose death has left a dark shadow over the family.

How did the Morgans get their happy ending in Episode 8? And what even happened to Jacob all those years ago? Read on to find out how Not a good deedEmmy-nominated author Liz Feldman answers all your burning questions—including who’s buying the Morgan residence.

What happened at the Morgan house three years ago?

Not a good deed slowly reveals the dark secret lurking in the Morgan family home. First, we learn that Paul and Lydia’s youngest child, Jacob, died a few years before the series begins and their daughter Emily has not been home since the tragedy. In Episode 7, we learn why Emily is so hesitant to return to her childhood home: Emily believes she killed Jacob.

In Episode 8 we find out what really happened. Flashbacks confirm that Jacob has been stealing luxury goods from the Morgans’ neighbors – a subject of gossip, speculation and scandal on their Tony Street. Furthermore, he had secretly given Margo the stolen items. But she rejected him and Jacob angrily decided to take her back. He also threatened to tell her husband JD (Luke Wilson) about their age-inappropriate relationship – but Margo cold-bloodedly insisted there was no such relationship. In the present day, she tells Lydia that the teenager Jacob simply had an unrequited “crush” on her.

Did Margo and Jacob really sleep together? “I want to leave that up to the audience’s interpretation,” Feldman tells Tudum. “But we know she’s someone who has no scruples.”

Whatever the truth between them, Margo chased Jacob out of her house while brandishing her husband’s gun. To make matters worse, Jacob wore a ski mask as part of his burglar uniform. Jacob and Margo continued to argue, with the latter trying to stop the former from “saying anything.” Finally, Jacob stormed into his house to escape from Margo – and a shot was fired.

Inside, Margo saw a remorseful Emily who had picked up her own gun when she saw what appeared to be a masked figure trying to break into her home. Emily had no idea that the stranger was actually her brother and fired the gun.

Who killed Jacob?

But Emily didn’t kill Jacob. It was Margo who shot Jacob with JD’s gun. Seeing that Emily immediately blamed herself for the death, Margo fled the scene. She then allowed the Morgans to make their assumptions from there.

Through Not a good deed – and its central mystery – Feldman wanted to examine how men and women deal with conflict. “I wanted to explore how we use communication, or lack thereof, in different ways to really protect ourselves,” she explains. “I also explore the fact that as women we are not free from toxic masculinity either. It’s omnipresent and we don’t even realize how it actually guides us through life, but it does.”

At the end of Episode 7, Paul and Lydia begin to realize the truth when they realize that they are in possession of two very different bullet casings. There’s the bullet casing that the Morgans believed killed Jacob, which has been lying upstairs in a pillowcase for years, and then there’s the bullet casing in the newly found evidence box that Paul’s brother Mikey (Denis Leary) is keeping as collateral has.

At the same time, Leslie Fisher (Abbi Jacobson), the would-be Morgan homebuyer, learns through an autopsy report that Jacob was killed by a .40 caliber gun – and points out that JD owns that very gun (he notoriously has it in public event). meltdown). In Episode 8, Leslie confirms to Lydia that the gun Emily fired was a 0.9 millimeter weapon. Therefore, there is no option for Emily to shoot her brother. The Morgans simply didn’t know about it because they covered up the autopsy – and any possible investigation into Jacob’s death – because they thought they were protecting their daughter.

Who gets the Morgan house?

Congratulations to Leslie and her wife Sarah (Poppy Liu) – they got the house on Derby Drive. When we last see the couple in Episode 8, they are standing in Jacob’s old room, looking forward to their own future. Sarah is pregnant and they are expecting a little boy.

Feldman says Not a good deed Author Bruce Eric Kaplan came to this sunny conclusion. “He was like, ‘Can’t we just give someone a happy ending?’ Don’t we want it to feel satisfying?’ “, she explains. “We wanted it to feel like life could go on in this house with a completely fresh family who could bring their own love and care to the house. And that there is a family that can take care of this house in return.”

When Not a good deed Season 1 comes to an end, Sarah and Leslie prove their commitment to the house. Finally, the next item on her to-do list is watering the tangerine tree in the backyard. As Sarah says, Lydia has “left very specific instructions” – and they will clearly follow them.

How are the others? Not a good deed Stories end?

Sarah and Leslie aren’t the only ones who get their “happy ending” in Episode 8. The rest Not a good deed Conclusions are:

The Morgans

One of the little tragedies of Not a good deed is selling Lydia’s beloved piano for quick money. In Episode 8, Paul and Mikey buy the instrument back.

In the final scene of the first season, the family continues their healing journey. During an intimate show, singer Emily performs a song that is a posthumous collaboration with Jacob, who wrote the music; and Lydia plays the piano, proving that she can finally return to her passion after properly mourning her son.

Feldman doesn’t want to reveal too much about what happens next for this complicated family. “I want viewers to think about it

where the Morgans are,” she says. “I step away from my favorite shows and think about (the characters) – ask myself questions and (mentally) write the rest of the story myself. And I want to encourage people to do that.”

Carla and Dennis

This couple (played by Teyonah Parris and OT Fagbenle) also gets a house on Derby Drive. It’s just not what they originally wanted. After a fire in Margo and JD’s villa, Carla and Dennis are able to buy the property. Now they plan to build their dream home on the ashes.

However, this couple still has some plans afoot. Carla believes that money from Dennis’ third book was used to purchase it. But that’s not the case. Dennis actually took $5 million from Carla’s mysterious billionaire father to buy the property. You can read more about this twist below.

Margo

In Margo’s final scene, it looks like she’s still up to her usual scams in a dimly lit bar. But the template is actually up. Not only is half of Margo’s face scarred from burns from the house fire, but Paul’s cop nephew Nate (Kevin Alves) is there to arrest her. The martini Margo is sipping better last a while – Nate promises she’ll go to prison for some time.

JD

After a tough season, things are looking up for the ailing soap actor in the end Not a good deed. He’s starring in a new western called Teton Territory, and its director is played by a very special person – Feldman himself. Congratulations, JD!

What’s wrong with Carla’s father?

In the first half of Episode 8, Carla confesses to Dennis that her father is “like a billionaire.” He is also a “womanizing man whore” who “destroyed” Carla’s mother. Unsurprisingly, Carla wants nothing to do with her father, which explains why she dodges his calls early in the first season.

“I wanted to give Carla, who seems to be a totally open-minded and responsible mother-to-be, something really surprising that would shape her perspective on life, but in a different way than you would imagine,” explains Feldman. “I wanted to make Carla a promise that something pretty juicy was coming her way.”

In fact, Carla has no idea what kind of intrigue her husband has brought into her life. In the couple’s final scene, we see a text exchange between Dennis and his shadowy father-in-law. Apparently he gave Dennis $5 million for the house on Derby Drive, believing that in return he would get to meet his grandson. Now Dennis has “missed” from the wealthy man – and Randall isn’t happy about it.

So what could be next for this dysfunctional family? “I love mysteries. Actually, I strangely hate having my own secrets. I can’t keep her,” Feldman admits. However, this remains blocked for the time being.
