Oakland Athletics is taking three big steps toward building a new stadium in Las Vegas

The Oakland Athletics’ move to Las Vegas got a big boost Thursday.

The Las Vegas Stadium Authority approved three separate agreements Thursday that represented the final hurdles to begin construction on the Athletics’ new baseball stadium. The group’s approved agreements included non-relocation, leasing and development, which were key steps toward building a $1.75 billion stadium on the Strip. Groundbreaking is expected in the spring, with completion scheduled for the start of the 2028 season.

The non-relocation agreement has a term of 30 years. Additionally, the agreements specify what actions the city can take if athletics attempts to relocate before the lease expires.

Ground has yet to be broken, but construction costs have already increased by $250 million due to inflation and additional amenities for fans and players. City officials said athletics will cover any cost overruns.

Nevada and Clark County are committing $380 million in public funds for a 30,000-seat domed stadium. Public funding won’t begin until athletics has spent at least $100 million, and city officials said the ball club has already invested $40 million. Team owner John Fisher, whose net worth is estimated at $3.2 billion, has reportedly increased his commitment to $1.1 billion.
