Ohio State’s first game on November 30 was a 10-8 home loss to Kenyon at Recreation Park. The last time the Buckeyes played on this day, they defeated Michigan 56-27 in Ann Arbor five years ago.

Overall, Ohio State has a 5-3 record as of November 30, including three straight road wins against Michigan. Today marks the fifth straight time the Buckeyes have faced Michigan on the day. 1963: Warfield leaves Ohio State a winner

Woody Hayes defeated Michigan and Bump Elliott for the fourth time in a row, making him, along with Francis Schmidt, the only Ohio State head coaches to achieve this success to that point. The victory didn’t come easy, as the Buckeyes trailed 10-0 in front of a sparse crowd of 36,424 at Michigan Stadium.

In his final game in a scarlet and gray jersey, Paul Warfield caught five passes for 76 yards – the second-highest single-game total of his career – and a spectacular 35-yard touchdown. The acrobatic touchdown catch sent Warfield falling backwards with his feet in the air before landing safely in the end zone, giving Ohio State its first score of the day with just 0:41 remaining in the first half.

The score remained 10-7 in Michigan’s favor until Ohio State quarterback Don Unverferth found the end zone with a 5-yard run down the left end in the fourth quarter. Dick Van Raaphorst’s extra point gave the Buckeyes a 14-10 lead with 7:20 left.

Ohio State would hold on to the victory and Woody Hayes’ 13th season ended with a record of 5-3-1, placing the Buckeyes in second place in the Big Ten. It wasn’t the head coach’s best record at Ohio State, but it was a notable coaching assignment as the team was without two-way halfback Bo Scott and its starting right halfback, Bennie Espy, due to academics this season. lost most of the year due to injury.

2013: Temperament and mood take flight in Ann Arbor

The 110th version of “The Game” turned out to be a high-scoring affair as the rivals duked it out for sixty minutes. The brawl began after kickoff in the second quarter when a horde of Wolverines attempted to bully Ohio State University returnee Dontre Wilson. At the end of the return game, the Michigan players surrounded Wilson and began shoving him. Wilson stood his ground and fought back.

Chaos ensued, and when the dust settled, Wilson and Marcus Hall were sent off, while backup linebacker Royce Jenkins-Stone was the only Michigan player to get the boot. Although the Buckeyes were disqualified due to the quantity and quality of players, it provided this epic image of Hall double-birding the Michigan fans on the way out of the stadium.

Fuck Michigan

The melee set the tone for the rest of the game as the teams entered the locker rooms tied at 21 after Braxton Miller’s 21-yard gain with 1:03 left in the first half. Urban Meyer, in his second year with the Buckeyes, said all the right words at halftime as his team scored two goals in the third quarter and took a 35-21 lead heading into the final 15 minutes of play.

Brady Hoke’s boys responded with two unanswered touchdowns, the second being a 2-yard touchdown pass from Devin Gardner to Jake Butt with 5:01 left, tying the game at 35-35.

Ohio State responded to the ensuing drive with a six-play, one-run drive as the Buckeyes drove the ball 65 yards down the Wolverines’ throat and scored what appeared to be the game-winning touchdown with just over two minutes to play.

Drew Basil fired the ball on the kickoff to the Michigan 4-yard line and Dennis Norflett completed a 12-yard return to his own 16-yard line. The Wolverines had to go 84 yards in 2:20 to take the game into overtime. On the next 10 plays, Gardner led his team to the Ohio State 2-yard line. On 2nd-and-goal, Gardner found Devin Funchess to bring his team within one point. It looked like Hoke was going to send his PAT unit onto the field, but after calling a timeout, his players convinced him to play two and win.

Gardner took the snap and shot the ball to his right. Instead of finding his target, Tyvis Powell intercepted the potentially game-winning pass. Bradley Roby recovered the ensuing onside kick and Ohio State escaped with a 42-41 victory.

Carlos Hyde finished the day with 226 rushing yards. Miller threw for 133 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 153 yards and three scores. Playing with a broken foot, Gardner threw for 451 yards and four touchdowns.

Meyer improved to 2-0 against Michigan and the Buckeyes were 9-1 in the final 10 games of the series. The Buckeyes traveled to Indianapolis, but the team ended the season with losses to Michigan State in the Big Ten Championship Game and Clemson in the Orange Bowl.

2019: Ryan Day starts the game properly

In Ryan Day’s debut in The Game as head coach, Justin Fields and JK Dobbins ran roughshod over Michigan as Fields threw for 302 yards and four touchdowns and Dobbins ran for 211 yards and four touchdowns as the Buckeyes defeated the Wolverines 56-27.

Going into the game, it seemed like Michigan had a legitimate chance to stop Ohio State’s seven-game winning streak. The Wolverines led 6-0 after Giles Jackson finished the game’s first drive with a 22-yard run.

However, Ohio State responded early in the game as Justin Fields hit Chris Olave for a 57-yard touchdown and Blake Haubeil’s extra point gave the Buckeyes a 7-6 lead. From that point on, Ohio State led the rest of the game.

Fields’ other three touchdown passes went to KJ Hill for six yards, to Garrett Wilson for 30 and to Austin Mack for 16 yards. With his four touchdown passes, Troy Smith (2006) scored the most touchdown passes of all time against Michigan.

A week later, the Buckeyes defeated Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship Game before losing a controversial game to Clemson in the College Football Playoff semifinals at the Fiesta Bowl.
