Ousted Rep. Cori Bush thinks she’ll run for office again: ‘I’ll always be Squad’

Ousted Rep. Cori Bush thinks she’ll run for office again: ‘I’ll always be Squad’

Rep. Cori Bush, D-Mo., a member of the progressive cadre of lawmakers known as the “Squad,” believes she will run for political office again at some point.

The outgoing congresswoman took office in 2021 and won re-election in 2022, but lost the Democratic primary in Missouri’s 1st Congressional District this year.

“Running for office again is not off the table at all. I didn’t expect to be in Congress for just four years, and that’s why I think I’ll run again at some point, whether it’s for Congress or something else. “I don’t know it. I don’t have any plans right now, but it’s not off the table,” she said, according to Politico.

“The troops will continue to fight,” she said. “For the 119th Congress, the numbers will be lower, but they will continue to fight for the people who have the greatest need. They will not change their priorities and their beliefs. The number of people in Congress on the team will just be like this. But they have never been silent, because we are not going anywhere, and I am not going far.

Like Bush, outgoing Rep. Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y., another Squad member who took office in 2021, is leaving Congress after losing a Democratic primary this year.

Bowman has indicated he may seek office again.

“The liberating aspect of no longer officially being in Congress is that I now have the opportunity to help and support my community in a variety of ways. There are many ways to teach, be an educator, and be a leader in education. There are many options.” I plan to influence electoral politics from a community organizing and fundraising perspective. And yes, there is a good chance that I will run for office again at some point, depending on where the situation goes,” Bowman said, according to City & State.

“I will initially be hyperlocal in my engagement,” he noted. “It’s time to build that power in places like Yonkers, in the Bronx, across the city, across the state and across the country.”
