Park residents are waking up to a white Christmas and more snow is on the way

Snow is expected across northern Utah and most of central Utah by midday Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow accumulation of around one centimeter is expected in the valleys, with more snow at higher elevations.

Heavier mountain snow is forecast from Friday morning.

The weather service reports that an atmospheric river flowing east will transition to heavy snow in northern Utah this weekend.

In the Upper Cottonwoods, there is a 70-90% chance of more than a foot of snow falling by Saturday night and a 20-30% chance of over 30 inches of snow.

In Park City, meteorologists are predicting one to two centimeters of snow on Thursday, then a few more centimeters overnight. Accumulation could increase by three to five inches on Friday. A few more centimeters of snow could fall Friday night and Saturday.

The Heber Valley will experience lower snow amounts and warmer daytime temperatures.

The weather service says it’s also possible another storm could move across the region Sunday into Monday.

Overall, meteorologists expect Utah’s northern mountains to experience elevation changes of one to three feet over the next five days.

The weather service recommends travelers slow down, prepare for traction limitations on mountain roads and check road conditions before heading out the door.
