Path of Exile 2 players are stuck on the login screen while the developer makes last-minute server upgrades

Grinding Gear Games warned us that Path of Exile 2’s early access launch could be difficult. The developer didn’t expect more than a million players, but pre-sales of the action role-playing game exceeded that number.

“There will likely be some queues during launch weekend,” said game director Jonathan Rogers. “Before launch, when we ordered (server) capacity, we really didn’t expect that more than a million people would be online at the same time.”

In fact, the number of concurrent players on Steam exploded to over 286,000 within 30 minutes of Path of Exile 2’s release. But everyone is staring at the login screen while Grinding Gear Games works on updates to the backend.

Grinding Gear Games said shortly before release on It also warned that there could be a “short delay” in getting the servers up and running. And that’s how it seems.
