Patriots star eliminated against Chargers

FOXBORO, Mass. – Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez may have played his final snap of the 2024 season.

Gonzalez was sidelined after suffering a concussion in the first half against the Los Angeles Chargers at Gillette Stadium on Saturday. Gonzalez was injured on the third play of the second quarter after Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert found wideout Ladd McConkey, who Gonzalez hit.

The second-year cornerback left the field for the blue medical tent and was ejected shortly afterward.

The 2023 first-round cornerback was arguably New England’s best player this season. Gonzalez consistently held opposing wideouts well below their typical value despite the Patriots defense’s overall struggles.

Considering there’s still one game left in the season and the Patriots standing, it’s safe to assume that Gonzalez’s strong second season could be over.

Drake Maye, who also went through concussion protocol against the Chargers, approved the league’s protocol and returned against the Bolts.
