Paul Finebaum jumps into the college football playoff talks to defend Alabama against Miami against Stephen A. Smith

Comes from the penultimate College Football Playoffs rankings, Alabama was on the field during this time Miami has been found out. And at least one ESPN analyst is excited about that fact.

Stephen A Smith made the case on ESPN First recording on Wednesday morning that Miami is more deserving of a playoff spot than Alabama.

He was vehemently rejected by another analyst Paul Finebaumwho pointed out that Miami doesn’t deserve to be in the College Football Playoff based on its overall performance. In addition, Finebaum defended Alabama and its claim to the final playoff spot.

“You have to understand that this is not the last year that there are only four schools,” Finebaum said. “We’re talking about 12 schools. So when you get to the bottom of it, they’re not perfect. We’ve had too many conversations for me to try to convince you that they’re the same team Nick Saban trained. They are not.

“But arguing just because Miami did it Cam WardJust because they have the best offense in the country isn’t a reason to jump in. You have to look at what they did versus what Alabama did. That’s all we’re talking about here.”

Even the chairman of the College Football Playoff Selection Committee Warden Manuel I closed the case for that.

Alabama is 3-1 against current top 25 teams, while Miami is 0-1. Meanwhile, Alabama is 6-1 against teams currently over .500, while Miami is 4-2.

Finebaum relied on statistics like these to support his case.

“I understand the committee. Alabama has a better resume,” Finebaum said. “I don’t know how else to look at it. They also pass the eye test. I don’t think it was really that close, because Doggie laid out the best case I’ve heard: Ole Miss And South Carolina should probably board via Miami.”

Stephen A. Smith even conceded this point and was pleased to note that he is actually more opposed to Alabama’s inclusion than Miami’s exclusion from the College Football Playoff.

“It’s not about being pro-Miami for me,” Smith said. “It’s about me being anti-Alabama. So if you want to tell me, Ole Miss, I’m okay with it. If you want to tell me it’s South Carolina, I’m good at it. I’m talking about Alabama.”
