Pedri criticizes FC Barcelona’s performance in the defeat against Leganes: “It was crap”

FC Barcelona midfielder Pedri lamented a poor performance on Sunday as the Catalans lost 1-0 to Leganes in La Liga.

Rayo Vallecano did Barca a huge favor by holding Madrid to a 3-3 draw 24 hours earlier.

However, instead of seizing the opportunity to go three points clear at the top, Barca were unable to catch up after a Sergio Poirrier goal after four minutes and suffered their second home defeat in a row.

Reacting to the setback, Pedri noted that “to be honest” it was a shitty game.

“It is impossible to leave today happy. I think we slept a little, they scored the goal against us. And then we woke up, we created chances, but we lacked the spark,” added the playmaker.

“We have to get into the games better,” demanded Pedri. “When a team like that scores quickly, they put a lot of people behind (the ball). And we lacked the spark I said and the clarity in front of goal. We are having a bad run and need to improve.”

Pedri acknowledged that there are “a lot of games” in football these days, but stressed that this is “not an excuse.”

“We are well prepared and come to the games well, but we have to arrive and finish with the same confidence as we did in the Champions League. If you don’t score a goal, it’s impossible to win and we have to improve on that,” concluded Pedri.

Pedri’s teammate Alejandro Balde, who was one of the Blaugrana’s few starting players to play with anywhere near intensity, said this Esports3 that Hansi Flick’s men “should have left with the three points”.

“There is no choice but to learn from mistakes and work to improve,” the left-back added.

“It’s always difficult to concede a goal so quickly because it’s a hard blow,” continued Balde. “But I think we knew how to react. The only thing we were missing was creating chances. We haven’t had good results in La Liga this month, but we have to focus on ourselves and not look at the rest and work on our own”.
