Elias Pettersson scored two goals in the second period and Kiefer Sherwood also scored for the Canucks. Sherwood also became the first player in the NHL to reach the 200-hit mark. Thatcher Demko improved to 12-0 in his career against the Sharks, making 28 saves.

William Eklund and Cody Ceci scored goals for the Sharks, who lost their fifth straight game. Eklund left the game after the first period and did not return. Luke Kunin also scored a goal for San Jose, and Yaroslav Askarov made consecutive NHL starts for the first time in his career, making 21 saves.

The Sharks’ second half was their downfall as their puck game failed again. They struggled to get out of their zone, and when they did, they often turned around at the blue offensive line, leading to a counterattack.

After converting the penalty to give the Sharks a two-man lead, Eklund fired a perfect one-timer over Demko’s blocker. Celebrini received a second assist for the goal.

Brock Boeser tied the game at 1-1 after the Sharks were caught in a substitution, allowing him to get to the net and keep his stick clear.

Sherwood beats Askarov over his blocker to give the Canucks a 2-1 lead.

Pettersson took advantage of a poor rebound from Askarov to give the Canucks a 3-1 lead in the second period. The Sharks challenged for the goal, but the game was up.

Pettersson scored his second goal of the game with a beautiful wrist shot over Askarov’s glove.

Ceci shoots a slap shot through Demko’s five-hole to make it 4:2.

Kunin grabbed a rebound with 4.3 seconds left in the third period to cut the game to 4-3.
