Play balls | Four highlights from Washington’s win over Philadelphia

For the second time this season, final-round magic unfolded at Northwest Stadium as the Commanders defeated the Eagles 36-33. Quarterback Jayden Daniels, wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus, wide receiver Jamison Crowder and linebacker Frankie Luvu had special performances to give Washington its 10th win of the season and move closer to a playoff spot.

Do you have déjà vu? Of course, the quarterback had to be added to the game list after this comeback.

There were some errors in Daniels’ stats (namely two interceptions) in a game that had some ugly and messy moments for both sides. But even when the Eagles gained momentum or made a mistake, the rookie quarterback never gave up and continued to show the coolness, accuracy and skill with his legs that have brought Washington so much joy this season.

Twice, Daniels took the reins himself on fourth down, making the run to extend drives and put his team in a positive position. His fourth-and-4 run in the first quarter led to his first touchdown pass of the day to Jamison Crowder shortly thereafter. With only 18 seconds left in the third quarter and Washington trailing by 13, the signal caller weaved through the Eagles defense for 29 yards on fourth-and-11, and that drive ended with a Zaccheaus touchdown.

Then of course there was the final journey. He had less than two minutes to try to score his team a touchdown, and Daniels completed the task with breathtaking speed and accuracy.

The win was a career day for No. 5 as he completed 24 of 39 passes for 258 yards, threw five touchdowns (his first time with 4+ TDs) and rushed for a team-high 81 yards. Dan Quinn perhaps said it best when discussing Daniel’s performance: “Today he’s become a heavyweight.”
